After a long qualification phase over several brackets, two rosters from Team Riverside travelled to Nuremberg. A local eSports tournament, the FrankenFinals 2018, was organized to match the WebWeek there. In the Tafelhalle in Nuremberg the setup was in full swing when we were warmly received by the organizers on 13.10. with two teams in the early afternoon. The teams had got to know each other the evening before and in the course of the day during numerous activities.
On site the first semi-final started at 5.00 o’clock. Until then pictures were taken, discussed with the large organizer team, which procedures work and how and got to know the opponent teams. In the first semi-final Team Riverside Uther’s Army met a team from the university qualifier. After initial difficulties, the Elo difference became noticeable in the current game and TRSU was able to assert itself and qualify for the final. Team Riverside, who the commentators called “big”, scored in the second semi-final against the team from the Jugendhaus-Qualifier and left nothing in the match except the First Blood.
Between the semi-finals and the big final a cosplay competition took place. During this time the boys could go down a bit and mentally prepare for the final. In the final of the sister teams the exit was open for a long time. In the end, the Elo difference also became clear in this game and TRS knew how to take advantage of TRSU’s mistakes and could thus secure the victory and the 500€ prize money.
We arrived with 12 men and were absolutely thrilled by the professionalism of the young and supposedly inexperienced hosts.
